Hadley Park House Hotel, the award-winning hotel and restaurant in Telford has recently launched a brand new comprehensive, interactive website thanks to Shrewsbury based marketing agency Reech Leisure.

The new site means guests can book online, download brochures, view menus and search special offers. The interactive site will also be kept regularly up-to-date with an online blog featuring the hotel’s own ‘lions’ as well as ever-changing news and events information. As Hadley Park House Hotel hosts over 100 weddings each year, a brand new wedding case study feature has also been developed which provides a brief synopsis of a wedding, 30 photographs of the special day, and, where applicable a snippet of the wedding video.

“This new case study feature will allow potential brides to see what other couples think of the hotel, and by viewing their photographs, will give them an idea of the endless possibilities available for an event at Hadley Park House Hotel” explain Mark and Geraldine Lewis, owners at Hadley Park House Hotel. “We are delighted with our new website; it is contemporary, easy to navigate and includes lots of great new features such as the wedding case studies, videos and a blog. We appointed Reech Leisure as not only were they very professional, they interpreted our brief precisely. Because a large amount of their work is within the hospitality sector this meant that they had invaluable industry knowledge too. Reech turned our website around in a matter of weeks and delivered ahead of schedule, so to say that we are pleased would be somewhat of an understatement.”

Rob Hughes, owner at Reech Leisure added “We are delighted that Hadley Park House Hotel selected Reech Leisure to provide them with a brand new website. Not only was it an exciting and interesting project, we were able to introduce new ideas that we had not yet developed for other clients. Working with Hadley Park House Hotel further strengthens our ever-growing leisure portfolio, and it’s really handy that they’re on our doorstep too! We are already working on a number of new projects with the hotel, so there are more exciting things already on the cards.”

Respond to comments in a timely fashion. In this new world, a speedy response is expected and appreciated. You are showing you care about the guest’s experience-whether they gave you a positive or negative review.

12 ways your hotel can improve its TripAdvisor score:

Respond to comments in a timely fashion. In this new world, a speedy response is expected and appreciated. You are showing you care about the guest’s experience-whether they gave you a positive or negative review.

Highlight updates and improvements in your responses. Remember, you have 32 million of your closest friends watching your hotel’s every move. Did you buy a toaster that does NOT burn the bread? Announce it.

Stop posting the SAME responses! It screams “I am doing this because I am obligated” versus “I care about your experience.” In fact, consider having more than one person post responses. Different personalities show through and that one staff member who has to respond to every comment does not get burnt out.

Exchange comments with reviewers. Per the Distrikt Hotel (which was ranked 4th out of 431 hotels), constant interaction is the key. “Somebody on TripAdvisor just posted that they feel like they’re talking to a real person when we exchange posts,” she said. “Our GM encourages us to be personal, to use our personal sense of humor and to treat people as friends online.

Watch TripAdvisor’s educational webinars for hospitality professionals.

Change your pictures and videos up regularly. It shows visitors you are actively engaged.

Add the review widget to your website. This keeps the prospect on your site and shows you are confident about your hotel and its fabulous service. Find it here.

Reputation management. Consider the task of online reputation management to be a team function. The results can be used as both a motivator and teachable experience. Managers can use the guest feedback to train and/or reward. “The practice of rewarding staff for positive reviews can in-turn help encourage guests to leave reviews.”

Make “sure multiple staff members are signed up to receive feedback alerts.” Track “performance by monitoring TripAdvisor’s customer satisfaction index and comparing that score to hotels in the competitive set.
Brian Payea, head of industry relations for TripAdvisor recommends “The real game-changer is getting involved in reviews by writing management responses. Research really proves that travelers value that exchange. Properties ignoring that are really missing an opportunity.”

Per the GM at the hotel rated 3rd in New York, it is the little things that make the difference. Using the phrase ‘Welcome’ or ‘May I help you’ versus ‘Yes’ and teaching the entire staff to smile and interact with the guests is what they remember and thus comment on.

Make sure you hire staff with a winning and positive personality. People like that are trainable and usually eager to learn. The resume means nothing if that new employee turns off your guests.

The Library Hotel Group in New York considers TripAdvisor to be their marketing strategy. According to Adele Gutman, the VP of sales, marketing and revenue, “When I was hired, I was not told to make sales calls or buy advertising. I was told to make these hotels as successful as they can be…I have found TripAdvisor a tremendous tool toward achieving that goal. The staff reads the reviews every morning. They have now developed such pride in their rankings that the success builds on itself.”

At many hotels nowadays, you're just as likely to stumble upon a poetry reading or writing workshop as you are a wedding reception.

Hotel lobbies are starting to feel more like coffeehouses or French salons in a bid to lure guests and neighbors.

At many hotels nowadays, you’re just as likely to stumble upon a poetry reading or writing workshop as you are a wedding reception.

Some of the lobbies are starting to feel more like coffeehouses or French salons, where guests and neighbors can pursue intellectual curiosities.

Think artist-in-residence, guided discussions and lectures by authors – all in a bid to provide guests with entertainment or intellectual stimulation and attract neighbors to the hotel. Among the offerings:

All nine Hyatt-owned Andaz hotels host monthly “salons” – discussions with artists, photographers or writers. The Andaz West Hollywood, for instance, had photographer Robert Landau lead a discussion about his new coffee table photography book,Rock ‘n’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip. Hyatt also recently launched AndazSalon.com, a virtual cultural hub, and has “cultural insiders” to find local artists to showcase.

The Betsy Hotel in South Beach in Miami plays host to a series of lectures, workshops and book signings. The Betsy also has “writers-in-residence.” Rooms are reserved for visiting artists and writers, particularly poets during the final stages of their projects.

W Hotels have “W Happenings,” events worldwide that are focused on film, fashion, design and art. The hotel chain recently launched a series of four travel-inspired short movies produced by Roman Coppola.

The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas has the P3 Studio, an artist-in-residence program that has international and local artists create interactive art projects. Guests can watch artists such as Leor Grady and Jerry Misko produce their work and even help them create their art.

“The better hotels are moving away from being bland, boxy and boring places to offering their guests a more refined and enhanced experience,” says Chekitan Dev, associate professor of strategic marketing and brand management at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. “It helps support local artists and provides an aesthetic complement to their stay.”

Lisa Marchese, chief marketing officer for the Cosmopolitan, says the hotel is trying to provide guests with memorable experiences. “We try to create opportunities for guests to interact with art on a very intimate, one-on-one level,” she says. “It’s really become part of the guest experience and created a sense of discovery. … It’s memorable. It’s the thing that people talk about.”

But the hotels also have an ulterior motive, Dev says. “By ‘curating’ an artistic experience for their guests, the guests don’t have to try and find something on their own, especially in a strange city, and the hotel can boost (food and beverage) sales, too,” he says.

Should email be part of your marketing plan? Probably.

The Direct Marketing Association estimates that every £1 spent on email marketing generates £40 in revenue. That makes email one of the best marketing investments you can make.

The returns can be even better for hotel and hospitality brands – in the 2012 Sign-Up.to Email Marketing Benchmark hospitality companies got the best results of any private sector firms, with a fantastic average open rate of 23 per cent.

Its essential to understand that email isn’t a way to directly acquire new customers, it’s a way to turn occasional customers into loyal, repeat business and to get them to recommend you to their friends.
